Quilting Retreats

​Each year the Guild sponsors quilting retreats for Members Only. Attendees spend their time bonding with Sewing Sisters, learning new techniques and projects, quilting, having lots of fun and making memories.

Frequently Asked Questions:

​

1. The retreat is 4 nights, do I have to stay all of them?

No, you can arrive and leave at will, just let the committee/chair know your plans. The hotel will assist with reservations.

 

2. What is the cost of the July 2024 retreat?

$105 + tax x 2 per night. So if you share a room, the hotel will split the bill upon checkout.

 

3. Do I have to sew all day and night?

No, only as much as you want. Also available is a pool, shopping and visiting with others, also nap time. Some of us are morning sewers, some late night; whatever you’re comfortable with.

 

4. Is there food?

The Holiday Inn provides daily complimentary breakfast. We all bring snacks to share and some days go out to dinner. You’re welcome to bring food from home as well.

 

5. What are the rooms like?

Each room has a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker with supplies. If you’re sharing a room: two queen beds. If you not sharing you might get one king size bed, or queens…at the discretion of the hotel. There are handicap rooms upon request.

 

6. What else is there to do in Lake Placid FL?

Date: January 19th - 22nd, 2025

Room Details: 

  • Each cabin is divided into 4 semi-private rooms, each with its own bathroom (8 people/cabin).

  • Two cabins are private rooms with each room having its own bathroom (4 people/cabin).

  • In all cabins, one room is handicapped accessible. 

  • Linens are included. All beds are topped with a quilt, too.

  • Rooms have AC and heat.

  • Each cabin has a lanai, common area and a small kitchenette with a coffee-maker & coffee. Personal snacks and alcohol are permitted in the open area only. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas.

 

Meal Details: 

  • Meals are included in the room price and served in Curry Hall. They can accommodate diet restrictions, but you must notify Liz Lyons prior to one month before the retreat date.
  • Meals are served buffet style. They serve a large breakfast. Salad bar with lunch and dinner.

  • The first meal will be dinner on Sunday, 19th. The last meal will be lunch on Wednesday, the 22nd.

Sewing/Multi-purpose Room Details: 

  • We will be sewing in a large multi-purpose room which includes ironing boards and table risers. Bring your own irons.

  • There is a kitchen with microwave & large refrigerator. Snacks are permitted but alcohol is not.

​

Grounds Details: 

  • The cabins, sewing/multi-purpose room, Curry Hall are easily within walking distance, but you can also drive to these locations.

  • Golf carts can be rented from an outside provider.

  • Paths are lighted, but you may want to bring/use a flashlight walking at night.

​

Costs: 

  • To hold your spot, $20 deposit is required. 50% is due by September 1st, 2024. Balance is due by December 1st, 2024.

  • Monies are to be given to Noel VanGorden.

  • Semi-private rooms are $110 per person/night; Privates Rooms are $150 per person/night

  • Check-in is Sunday, the 19th, after 1pm. The sewing/multi-purpose room will be open to sew. Rooms will be available at 3pm.

  • Check-out is Wednesday, the 22nd, by 10am. However, you can sew in the sewing/multi-purpose room until 2pm.

  • All monies refundable before October 1st. A percentage will be refunded after October 1st.
